If you have been following me over these past few months, you might have notice a trend. I like wearing dresses as tops. Specifically, I like wearing empire waist dresses as tops. A mini dress is perfect to show off killer legs, it’s also a great modest piece to add to your wardrobe. The great thing about dresses is that they aren’t seasonal so you can find them any time of the year.
In the summer, I look for lightweight cotton dresses. Houston weather doesn’t allow for much else. If you need other ideas for modest summer outfits, read my previous post. When looking for these dresses, here are a few pointers:
- Length: I stick with dresses at the knee or above. I think it’s the most flattering length – long enough to cover what you need, but short enough not to look frumpy. If you’re taller though, you can get away with longer lengths.
- Shape: Do what works best for your body type. For me, that means empire waist to define my waist and hide my hips and behind.
- Bottoms: Try to counter the shape and volume of the dress. If it’s an A-line dress try slimmer pants. Shift dress, try wide leg pants or flared leg.
