Why Shop Second Hand?
This is a fashion blog, and just like lots of other fashion blogs, I encourage consumption through affiliate links, and am constantly presenting new things I am buying and wearing. I am trying to be a little more thoughtful about my blog. One way is buying what I need, not just ‘content’ for the blog. The other is shopping second hand clothing.
Shopping second hand clothing may give you pause, but we are learning more about the harm fast fashion does to the environment. Buying second hand is a means of sustainable shopping. From a fashion standpoint, second hand stores are a goldmine for vintage fashion. And from a budget standpoint, you’ll definitely save some money.
What to Buy Second Hand
The only second hand pieces I own are ones I purchased from the River Oaks Pink Elephant sale. I like to see things in person, and everything is a great deal. Here are some of my favorites.
Modest Vintage Dresses
I have to say that my favorite finds are dresses. I have such a hard time finding modest dresses and I have been able to find so many vintage dresses that are long sleeve with longer hems. This one is Burberry Brit.

Funky Vintage Coats
Winter coats are an investment, and if you’re like me – I don’t want to spend a lot of money on something that doesn’t go with everything. I bought this vintage coat for $16, it’s Trina Turk. The white top is second hand Kate Spade.

Unique Vintage Pieces that Fit Your Style
Everyone has their personal style, that’s the great thing about shopping vintage and second hand stores, we aren’t all looking for the same thing. This vintage shirt purchase was inspired by this Burberry shirt. Similar look, but within my budget. Another bonus about vintage clothing is the amazing quality!

Designer Vintage Handbags
I have had some great luck with handbags at the Pink Elephant Sale. This Dior bag pictured above is my latest score from there and was less than $100!

I got this Ferragamo crossbody a few years ago, also less than $100. When shopping second hand clothing or handbags, I would really encourage you to stick with your personal style. You won’t find the latest designs, but you will definitely be able to find something that fits your unique taste.
