I recently attended my cousin’s wedding in Atlanta. I had a wonderful time celebrating the bride and groom and spending time with family. On my dad’s side of the family I have eight aunts and uncles, 19 cousins, and 22 nieces and nephews. Our weddings are big, chaotic, and so much fun. We hail from Punjab, so we also love to dance. I try really hard to pass our culture down to my kids, but it is very hard. Trying explaining why we put mehndi on the bride’s and groom’s hands, feed them mithai and wave money around their heads, not easy. As the children of immigrants I like that we are able to merge the best of two cultures. The American in me loves the meaningful toasts while the desi girl in me loves the Pakistani wedding fashion.
I have always loved Pakistani fashion. From the silhouettes themselves to the intricate design work, I have such appreciation for the designers and artisans. I personally find Pakistani designer clothing to be cost prohibitive. Instead, I go with a smaller shop which allows me greater input on the design process.
The Mehndi Outfit
I know it’s tradition to wear bright, bold colors for a mehndi, but sometimes I like to mix it up. Plus, as you can probably tell by now, bright and bold really isn’t my aesthetic.
The Wedding Outfit
I’ll be honest, I did not love this when I first saw it, so it sat in my closet for a year.
The Makeup
Pakistani weddings are as much about hair and makeup as they are the outfit. With my hair short, I don’t have a whole lot of options. As for makeup, these are the items I use to create my look. Affiliate links below.
Naked eye palette, Laura Mercier lip glace, Diorshow mascara, Laura Mercier powder foundation, Tom Ford lipstick, Nars blush
Gold, gold, gold
First gold is for jewelry. Usually it’s the real deal but I went for lighter pieces since my clothes were so heavy. I found a few pieces I thought would go well with our traditional clothing. Affiliate links below.
Second gold is for shoes. Every south Asian girl has a pair of gold shoes in her closet, refer to my basic shoes post. I have three. Below are some affiliate links to some of my favorites.
Last gold is for a gold clutch. I didn’t use one this time because I had a large unattractive tote with all my children’s items in it. Affiliate links below.
Howdy just wanted to give you a quick heads up and let you know a few of the images aren’t loading correctly. I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different browsers and both show the same results.
Thank you for bringing that to my attention! I have fixed the images in that post, but you’ve made me aware of the same issue in others, thanks!
When I initially commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get
several emails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove people from that service?
Thanks!
Sorry about that, let me see if I can take care of that for you!
