Fashionable, modest swimwear has always been a challenge for me. I’ve written blog posts about my makeshift suits in the past. My main issue was that I couldn’t find a modest swim suit I really liked – either the fit was poor, or the style was unflattering. I was recently gifted a suit by modest swimwear brand Lyra swim, read on for my thoughts below. Click on any of the pictures below to buy.
Fashionable Modest Swimwear
What I love most about this suit from Lyra swim is that it is functional AND fashionable. So many brands just create to serve a purpose: does it cover all the necessary body parts? Check. But this suit is cute. I’m actually excited to put it on and go swimming.
A Fashion Brand that Gets Modesty
While I haven’t had the opportunity to speak with the designers of Lyra swim, from their suits I can gather that they understand modesty is a spectrum. The suit I am wearing is the Sofia in Sailor. It includes a long sleeve one piece swimsuit, leggings, a wrap skirt, and a swim turban. I love that I can wear as much, or as little, as I want depending on the environment. The Sofia suit comes in a lot of different colors – nine altogether. Lyra also sells a wrap top style suit and a tunic style suit.
The Sofia suit also comes in a Crop style that has a short sleeve one piece and capri leggings instead, which I love. I know countless women who want more coverage, but not necessarily all the way to their ankles and wrists.
For readers who wear hijab, here is the whole suit so you can have an idea of what it looks like.
I usually wear my suit with a skirt. I love the one that comes with this suit, the wrap style makes it easy to put on and take off.
More About Lyra Swim
Lyra Swim is based out of the UK, but lucky for us, they ship worldwide. There is so much thought put into the production of their suits, which is a breath of fresh air in this age of fast fashion. The team sources their swimwear fabric from Italy and design in house in the UK. The suits are manufactured in Turkey in a factory where employees are paid fair wages and treated well.
