Most people know Ibtihaj Muhammad as an Olympic fencer. And rightfully so, she was the first Muslim American woman to medal at the Olympics. She even has her own Barbie doll. Most recently she has published a children’s book titled The Proudest Blue in which she tells the story about a little girl’s experience of wearing hijab for the first time. As if that isn’t enough, Ibtihaj Muhammad has a clothing line too! The brand is called Louella and has some amazing modest pieces. I ended up buying this modest dress by Louella that is part of their fall collection while at ISNA over Labor Day.
The Perfect Modest Dress for Fall
You know me and my perpetual search for modest dresses. This time I wasn’t actually searching for one, but I saw it on the rack and I thought it was the perfect dress for fall with the florals and the colors. The dress also checks the box with appropriate neckline and long sleeves. I sized down for this one, it is an XS. Have Fun While You Wear It
My photographer, AKA my husband, commented that he just knows when I like my outfit because I act more confidently. That’s what a great piece can do for you. From a modesty perspective, I am not constantly pulling up my neck, or trying to cover my legs. But honestly, the frill at the bottom is my favorite. It gives it a mermaid-y flamenco vibe that I just love.
Louella The Brand
This modest dress by Louella is only one piece in their fall collection. While it is pricier than the pieces I normally buy, I did end up purchasing it for a couple reasons. First, the company makes a conscious effort to empower women by ensuring they are involved in the design and manufacturing process, and it is all done here in the United States. The other reason is that Louella exists to meet the modest fashion needs of American women, and I am all about that. While I am happy when mainstream brands create modest clothing for us, I will always support modest fashion created by us.
