Making our House Feel More Like Home
We have lived in our home for a little over four years. When we first moved in, our kids were too tiny for us to care what it looked like. But as they grew older and spilled/broke fewer things, we started making small changes. Our most recent is our living room update.

This is the first piece of furniture I ever bought on my own. My brother took me to a Rooms to Go outlet in Atlanta 15 years ago and it survived the torment of three Mukhtar children. It has moved onto another loving home to make room for our new furniture.

First, the Floors
We live in an older home, and while the previous owners did a good job of updating some things, others they did not. Case in point – the floors. Replacing floors is a large investment, and we waited five years before we decided to go for it. Because we have a pool and very active kids, we decided to install porcelain wood look tiles. If you’re thinking of doing the same be forewarned that the installation is messy!

New Furniture that’s Kid Friendly
We were definitely ready to get rid of our old furniture, but not quite ready to invest in forever furniture. After quite a bit of research, we settled on Joybird for our living room seating. Joybird allows a great deal of customization with a wide variety of upholsteries to choose from. We even did some stain testing on our swatches before settling on our final choices below. The couch is the Liam in Royal Cobalt, loveseat is the Presley in Chance Platinum, and the chairs are Owen also in Chance Platinum (this is not a sponsored post, I’m just sharing in case you needed the info!). The rug is from Pakistan and I found the little blue ottoman at Home Goods!

It’s still a work in progress. I am on the lookout for some throw pillows as well as some accent tables. Any home designers out there that have some advice? I’d love some help!
Love it!
What kind of flooring is that?
We have Acacia Asian walnut hardwood (looks very similar to yours) in our new place that we’re renovating and I’m wondering if I should stain them lighter. But looking at your floors with everything in place, I’m re-thinking staining them now.
Thank you! It’s actually porcelain wood look tile. The variety of color in the floors works well for us because it goes with all the different furniture in our house.
NICE
Thanks!
